Quick Update

I’ve been running the last two days and the ankle is doing much better. Today felt a lot better then yesterday and after a mile things felt like it was back to normal. The only thing I’ve notice is when I plant to make a turn the ankle is a little sensitive with the extra pressure against the side of the shoe. But the plan is to do couple more short easy runs this weekend and then get back to the regular training plan starting on Monday.

Also I’ve been doing a lot of photography lately as you could probably figure out based on the last post. I’m planning to post pictures I take here: http://howarda20837photos.wordpress.com/

New Camera Toy

I got a new toy for my camera, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM lens. This is part of canon’s  L-series so it’s the top of the line in terms of construction and quality.

I’ve been playing around with it for a few days and I am very, very happy with the results. The pictures are some much sharper then the basic telephoto zoom lens that comes with camera kit.

I read articles did a lot of research on the different options out there and what people thought of this lens and it seems that for the value/quality this about as good as it gets. There is another version of this lens that has image stability built in, but costs twice as much and weights a couple pounds more making it hard to walk around with all day which was something I was looking for. There is also an f/2.8 version of this lens but that is much, much more expensive and heavier so that wasn’t an option.

Updating the Ankle

The ankle is improving very quickly. It’s much better then last time, which based on how the ankle was looking Thursday is very good news. I’ve been walking around pain free for a few days and I’ve actually been swimming the last three days. I think I’m going to try to bike inside tomorrow, see what happens and then try to run on Wednesday if things are going well.

The ankle doesn’t hurt and isn’t tender to the touch anymore but it has developed some bruising in the last 24-48 hours  which was expected. It looks much worse then it is.

I also noticed my other ankle has a little scar from my bike crash two years ago.

One thing that I believe has helped the ankle out this time is the balance board I have been using. I’ll spend 5-10 minutes at a time balancing, and then roll circles in both directions.

I think this has helped to make sure things don’t get stiff and tight in the ankle as it is healing which can tend to happen if it’s up in a split all day.

One neat thing I noticed about the board today, is that the plastic piece on the bottom is off-center, so depending on the what angle you are standing at the balance point changes.

This one is a panorama of a couple of pictures stitched together. I can’t get it to display on the computer that well but the picture looks like it will be very good when I print it out.

Ankle Injury 2.0

I messed up my ankle, again. I did something similar 2 years ago and you can find some pictures of the awesome bruising that happened here, and here.

For this one I stepped on a chunk of ice/snow while I was running this morning at rolled it. I saw a really low flying helicopter going overhead so I looked up to see what it was and kept running. That is when I stepped wrong and twisted it since I wasn’t looking at where I was going.

Luckily it was early in my run and I walked the half mile back home and iced and elevated it. About a half hour later the pain got really bad, I was sweating, light headed, and felt like I was going to yak so I figured a trip to the doctor would be a good idea.

Because of all the snow my regular doctor was closed I went to an emergency care clinic. After sitting there for a while the ankle was feeling much better and I could put weight on it so I was fairly certain it wasn’t broken. They took x-rays anyways just to make sure, and it is not broken. I got an air cast and am going to have to stay off it for a while.

Still More Snow Pictures

Some more snow pictures from today and I’ve been messing around with a couple of different things in Photoshop try to create different effects.
